Funding

Who can apply?

South African residents who are full time, registered students of the Dance department only can apply.

What Bursaries are offered?

The UCT School of Dance makes applications to various funding sources eg. The National Arts Council however there is no guarantee that in any given academic year bursaries will be offered to undergraduate or post graduate students . Currently, the department offers The Dulcie Howes Ballet Bursary, The Eoan Group Bursary, and the Soroptimists of Lions Bead Bursary, Francis Harrison Bursary (CAFDA), Mary Renault Bursary, Joan Honiball Prize.

Where any bursary becomes available in each academic year, an invitation for applications will be posted on the student notice board, indicating amount available, and application requirements. Please take particular note of deadline and closing dates.

The Faculty of Humanities also offer Merit Scholarships to first year incoming students. These Scholarships are based on a number of criteria and available to South African, first-time studying at a Tertiary Institution. These Scholarships are nominated by the department at the beginning of each year.

What are the Selection criteria?

The selection criteria are listed below

  1. the candidate’s academic and performance track record to date ( ideally, a 60 % average pass on a full course load) and a submission of his/her over all contribution to advance the work of the Dance department;
  2. evidence of financial need.

All applicants must submit a clearly motivated statement (500 typed words maximum) outlining their personal need as per the criteria explained above. A letter of reference from a community member, professional in the field of Dance who is not a member of the School of Dance must be attached. Applications may include supporting documentation which must then be certified or be accompanied by an affidavit. Note, the School of Dance retains its right not to award any bursary in part or in full should any of the criteria stated above not be met.

When do applications close ?

Each Bursary will announce a closing date. No late applications are accepted.
